The students are to:
- circle the numbers in the word problems
- underline important words that are highly important to solve the problem
- box the question part (add, subtract,multiply,etc.) of the word problem {Also known as the key words, examples listed at the bottom of the page}

P.S.A. Strategy
This strategy is to help children think about what should be really going on inside their brains while they are solving a word problem. P.S.A. is a three step process to help those in need of help with solving word problems.
P.S.A. stands for:
P - Identify the problem
S - Strategize and solve
A - Answer and check
This is a great way to keep your child's attention while trying to solve a word problem. It is a great strategy to break down the process and really understand how to solve a word problem.
*A way you can demonstrate P.S.A. is easily done on a folder! You can put the word problem paper inside the folder, cut the folder into three equal sections and just by resembling the product below, you have a strategy you can use with our child!

SWEEP
This strategy is to help children demonstrate and show that they understand challenging word problems and to not leave anything important out!
SWEEP stands for:
S - symbols being put in where necessary
W - words or labels to show what we are working with (inches, rulers, puppy, etc.)
E - writing mathematical equations to match the task
E - explaining their thinking
P - drawing pictures or diagrams to show what they know
If any little bit of information is left out of a word problem, either that can throw the entire word problem off or points are removed and that is something we do not want to strive towards! So, lets SWEEP up all of the information of our word problems!
