Activity #1
Scavenger Hunt!
What more can be an interacting activity than a scavenger hunt around the house? As a parent, you can either make a list yourself for your child or you can just give them the option what they should measure around the house. It's a great way for them to be up and moving and using their math skills to use! All you need is a ruler or a measuring tape and your set! This activity can also be done outside if it is a beautiful day out!
2.3.3.B: Identify a measurable characteristic of an object, select an appropriate standard or non-standard unit of measure and tool, and determined the measurement to a specified level of accuracy.

Activity #2
Word Search
The best of both worlds, using math vocabulary to make a word search. Create a word search with the vocabulary words of the week or any words in general. This activity will stimulate the child's brain as they look for the words that need to be identified. This helps with the child's spelling of the word as well as remembering all of the common words that coincide together as one topic. You can even make this into a race between the child and parent or may even
work together as a team to find the words!

Activity #3
Summer Learning with Watermelon Spitting Contest!
Are your children spending too much time inside during the summer hours? Here is a great activity that you can do with your child to work on their measurement. Get a seeded watermelon and cut it into pieces so there is lots and lots of seeds for the kids to be able to spit. First, your child will have to make a chart of all of the participants that will be apart of the watermelon seed spitting contest (like the one in the picture). Find a perfect place to host the contest, like a drive-way perhaps, and to mark where the participants should stand. Once the game starts of everyone getting a turn to spit, your child can take the measuring tape and measure the distance of the standing point to where the seed landed! Not only is this a great way to keep measurement on their mind in the summer, but it's fun & delicious!
